Here is the outstanding, builder grade
(we know the 'grade' of this builder)
shower that is nearly 20 years
old, ugly, leaky and elbow bruising.
Poor Richard, working
all alone to remove
the shower surround
(we know, of course,
that he had help but
she is camera shy.
No, wait, I mean
the camera woman)

Looking better already!
We added the new wall first and then
will move the electrical, plumbing and exhaust
vent pipe. This is a good look at the space taken
from the bedroom and added into the bathroom.
15 inches.
It is so interesting that the bedroom doesn't feel
like it lost much, if any, space and the bathroom
feelings like it gained 10 feet! Richard explains it
as percentages, little percentage lost from the
good-sized bedroom and much gained in the
smallish bathroom.
New wall from the bedroom side. We really like
the angle, it makes a lot more sense now. Before
the angled wall was 45 inches, now it is 24 inches
and has balance and harmony.
Go figure?
I always hated the 45 inch wall, what do you do
with that? We hung pictures because no furniture
could fit on it because anything we put there
blocked the doorway. The return in the
original wall was only a couple of inches before the
doorway, now it is 18 inches. The whole room
feels better and we find that amazing!
This is a good view of the bathtub with the
'prayer step' removed. You probably don't
know what I mean unless you have gone
with us into a Catholic church/cathedral.
They have these little bench steps that fold
down for use and then back up out of the way.
That is what the bathtub step always
reminded me of.
When we sit on the lip of the tub (to discuss
bathroom remodel, of course!) it feels like a
new space, very different feeling with the
step gone. We are loving it!
View into the space between floor
and kitchen ceiling.
New route for the plumbing.
We are adding a shower tower which has
a rain shower head, 6 body sprays and a
hand held shower head. Then we are running
another line into the ceiling and adding
another rain shower head that will come
from the ceiling. There will also be a light in
the shower which will be over the bench.
Talk about luxury, I can sit to shave my legs,
heck, we can both just sit because
we are old and weary!
Just another view of the hole in the floor.
Richard worked on this on Saturday, after I left
for work. When I got home I started to explore in
the dark, so glad that I listened to that still, small
voice and turned the light on (extremely low,
without a door I was concerned that it would
wake Richard) otherwise I would have ended
up in the kitchen sink!
doorway for the
water closet. We
think that the builder
really missed, they
could have so easily
put a door in here.
The clothes closet,
when we are
completely done with
the renovation will
have a pocket door,
which will mean that
a person standing at
the sink will NOT get
knocked in the back
of the head and fall
into the sink anymore,
so sorry, Richard!!!

Wow! Everything looks great. Your bathroom will be so swanky when you are done. Maybe then you can come renovate my bathroom?
